ABSTRACT
Traditionally, the concert and opera season opens with the opening night of the Metropolitan Opera. Verdi's "La Traviata" has been chosen for this season's gala event, on Monday, September 29, at 6:30 p.m., starring Renee Fleming, Ramon Vargas and Dmitri Hyorostoysky. The score was composed by Giuseppe Verdi, and it was premiered at Teatro La Fenice in Venice on March 6, 1853, eventually becoming a favorite with opera-lovers throughout the world.
