ABSTRACT
CONOR McDONALD has three intriguing looking chevron symbols tattooed on his inner right forearm. The young Wexford forward is asked if they perhaps reflect the three-in-a-row of Bord Gáis Energy Leinster Under-21 titles that the county has won? That, of course, would be too neat an explanation. 'No, Jesus no! There's a different meaning for it altogether. It's a good analogy though!' If not upon McDonald's arm, Wexford's achievements at the U21 grade will most certainly be recorded in the history books. They have beaten Kilkenny in two finals, most recently last month, and Dublin in the other, and have established themselves as the dominant provincial force. The All-Ireland series has proven a tougher nut to crack, though, and they continue to chase a first outright success since 1965. Their difficulties were summed up by the shock defeat to today's opponents, Antrim, at this stage two years ago. 'You're probably not going to be bringing that stuff up from the past, from two years ago,' said McDonald (below). 'But it will be in everyone's head that we do have a point to prove, to right what happened two years ago.
