Discusses the history of the production of silk in China. Earlier example of silk fabric found in Zhejiang Province in 1960, dated ca. 2700 B.C.; Traces of silk fabric imprinted in corrosion of bronzes of the Shang period; Attempt to determine whether certain agricultural products and techniques known in China since the Neolithic period were of indigenous origin or introduced from the Near East; Basic material silk of Chinese weavers.
