Hockman takes Sony/ATV chair

David Hockman on Monday was named chairman of Sony/ ATV Music Publishing, the joint venture between Sony Music Entertainment and Michael Jackson that owns publishing rights to songs ranging from the Beatles and Bob Dylan to Destiny's Child and Hank Williams. Hockman, perhaps best known for leading PolyGram's re-entry into the music publishing business, replaces Paul Russell, who stepped down as chairman of both New York-based Sony/ATV and Sony Music Entertainment Europe to return to London, where he plans to work with a major entertainment law firm, sources said.
