ABSTRACT
Sainsbury's has completed its largest-ever information technology (IT) reskilling programme, by training around 100,000 staff on a new electronic point-of-sale (EPOS) system. The multi-million pound 12-month initiative, which is part of the Store Systems Release I Project, has overhauled the retailer's in-store IT systems by replacing 14,000 tills and 12 EPOS systems in 700 stores, with software from Retalix Ltd. and hardware from ICL and NCR. As part of the project, nearly 100,000 checkout, petrol-station, back-office and IT staff have been trained to use the systems. Sainsbury's worked with provider Vega Skillchange to write the training material for the project.
