ABSTRACT
The article criticizes the music performance of the group Bad Plus. Pianist Ethan Iverson, bassist Reid Anderson and drummer David King started off with a music item called "Big Eater" at a performance. The enthusiasm of the three performers was undeniable and they each had a reasonable degree of skill, but their version of jazz saxophonist & composer John Coltrane was not up to the mark. These numbers were followed by a half-dozen other pieces with titles like "1972 Bronze Medalist" and "Boo-Wah." Some were fast, some were slow, but they were all pretty much the same.
