ABSTRACT
Director Gus Van Sant's movie on the Columbine High School massacre, "Elephant," received the Palme d' Or and the best director award at the 56th Festival de Cannes. The jury, headed by French actor writer director Patrice Chereau, chose to spread its main awards across just three movies, the other two being "Uzak," directed by Turkey's Nuri Bilge Ceylan, and "The Barbarian Invasions" from Quebecois writer-director Denys Arcand. The Jury Prize for a short film went to "L' Homme sans Tete," directed by Juan Solanas and produced by Paris based Onyx Films.
