Due to science fiction action movies like "X2: X-Men United," from 20th Century Fox Film Corp., and "The Matrix Reloaded," from Warner Bros. Pictures, the spring movie season in the U.S. generated the second-highest admission counts in history. The film largely responsible for driving spring 2002 to its record heights was Sony Corp.'s "Spider-Man," which generated nearly $300 million by the end of the season. The aggregate income generated for the season's top 10 films, which this year was $815 million, was down by 21% from the record high of $1.03 billion posted last spring.
