ABSTRACT
Real-time enterprise-software specialist PeopleSoft Inc. disclosed plans to take over rival company JD Edwards Co. This would bring together two of the world's largest business-software organisations, both of which have significant training arms. According to Craig Conway, PeopleSoft chief executive officer, the chance to reach the 'mid-market' customers of JD Edwards was the primary motivation for the acquisition. Although the proposed takeover was welcomed by the JD Edwards' board, PeopleSoft now needs to gain approval from both shareholders and the regulatory authorities to complete the purchase.
