Telewest Broadband is combating information technology (IT) problems by offering its staff the chance to study for an IT BTEC. Launched in June 2003, the scheme builds a course that aims to make clear technology terms that staff encounter at work. 'There was a need to increase the basic knowledge of staff, who are surrounded by IT jargon,' says Jeannette Kelland, training advisor for Telewest's network, technology and IT division. The course, which has been designed purely for Telewest's employees, covers a range of IT and telecoms technology including DSL, LANs, routers and types of cable.
