ABSTRACT
A substantial number of the U.S.' elderly citizens over the age of 65 are presently beneficiaries of one or more of the many existing Federal and Federal-State programs of medical care. These services are included in such medical programs as civil service, veterans', and military "medicare" programs; care for certain of the needy and various programs conducted by the U.S. Public Health Service. Private plans of medical insurance, both in the form of individual policies and programs of group coverage, are carried at the present time by more than 140 million persons in the U.S. through some 1800 insurance organizations.
