ABSTRACT
Details a study made by G.P. Ayers and J.L. Gras of the Division of the Atmosphere Research of the CSIRO, the Australian national research organization, on the suggestion by some scientists that emissions from phytoplankton in the oceans may increase cloud cover over the Earth. Seasonal relationship between the concentrations of cloud condensation nuclei and the amount of methanesulphonate, an oxidation product of the compound dimethylsulfate produced by phytoplankton as a waste product.
