Reports on the discovery of the bacteria, Enterobacter cloacae, from the intestine of an extinct mastodon found in a peat bog in Ohio. Origin of the bacteria from the ice age; Analysis of the DNA of the bacteria and the comparison of the bacteria with the other strains of enterobacter; Speculation on the mastodon's last meal; Publication of the results of the research in the July 1991 issue of the journal 'Quarterly Review.'
