The article focuses on accounting for advertising expenditures. Above the line costs represent the costs of media advertising while below the line costs represent those in the promotional area. The above the line costs attributable to advertising might be considered company-wide costs charged to administration whereas, below the line costs might be charged directly to sales costs.
