The article reports on the earnings of Quaker Oats Co. for fiscal year 1990 citing its decision to maintain its business strategies despite profit declines and business losses. The company decided to focus its strategies on high-growth, high-margin businesses such as cereals, Gatorade and certain pet foods and by cutting trade promotion and advertising spending whenever possible. New-product plans are being reevaluated in fiscal 1991 including some advertising budget cuts.
