ABSTRACT
The article reports on artist Kara Walker's silhouette installation exhibition at the Studio Museum in Harlem, New York City. Her wallpieces conceptualize stereotypical African-American images from the pre-Civil War and post-Civil War era. Walker's black paper silhouettes stem from early art traditions in the U.S. and Europe. Viewers were impressed as they examined Walker's interpretation of the relationship between masters and slaves.
