ABSTRACT
The article offers suggestions for choosing battery optimum for use in harsh environments. Topics include features to be considered for batteries including longer operating life, smaller size, and higher voltage, applications of bobbin-type lithium thionyl chloride (LiSOCL2) batteries including radio-frequency identification (RFID) tracking devices, medical cold chain and utility meters and use of rechargeable lithium batteries to store the harvested energy.
