ABSTRACT
The effects of BO additive on the phase formation, the microstructures and the microwave dielectric properties of 1.0 mol% LaAlO-doped 0.95MgTiO-0.05CaTiO ceramics were investigated. The BO addition lowered the sintering temperature of 1.0 mol% LaAlO-doped 0.95MgTiO-0.05CaTiO ceramics effectively to 1125 °C due to the liquid-phase effect. The microwave dielectric properties were found to strongly correlate with the sintering temperature as well as the amount of BO addition. According to the XRD patterns, the secondary phase CaLaTiO formed with more than 2 wt% BO addition, which decreased the dielectric constant but promoted the Q × f value of the ceramics. With 3 wt% BO addition, a maximum Q × f of 57,000 GHz (at 8 GHz) associated with a dielectric constant of 20.3 and a τ value of −7.2 × 10/°C was achieved for the samples sintered at 1125 °C for 4 h.
