The article focuses on use of technological innovation in convenience store human resources. As convenience store companies grow and technology advances, many turn to automation for the handling of jobs otherwise performed by staff employees. Companies including BP PLC, Shell Oil Products U.S., ChevronTexaco Corp. and Valero Energy Corp. have all jumped into the HR tech pool, with Valero upgrading it's training by taking the system online. With TopClass, an e-learning and content management solution from WBT Systems, headquartered in Dublin, Ireland, Valero replaced its 800-page retail operations manual, previously printed and shipped to each individual store. Since its selection last year, Valero has been touting its benefits. The company is using the program to distribute training information to more than 10,000 employees at its 1,400 company-operated convenience stores. This also reduces travel costs as well as time off taken by employees to attend classes.
