ABSTRACT
RADIO In Our Time RADIO 4, 9AM & 9.30PM Melvyn Bragg and guests take a journey to the centre of the Earth (above) for this week's discussion on our planet's solid inner core, which is the size of the moon, and the liquid outer core, which is the size of Mars. The magnetic fields produced by the core make life on the surface possible, protecting the planet from much of the sun's radiation. But recent evidence suggests the core is spinning at a different speed and on a different axis from the surface.
