ABSTRACT
Information about developments in investment banking in media and entertainment industry of the U.S. is presented in this article. Bidding for Artisan Entertainment Inc. is said to have heated up between two investment groups-one led by Scoff Greenstein, the former CEO of USA Films, and Thomas H. Lee Co., and the other by Steven Rattner's Quadrangle Group. Entertainment billionaire Haim Saban has gathered a takeover team, including backing from Apax Partners, to try and buy Granada and Carlton once they merge. Vivendi said it has barred Barry Diller from acquiring any of its entertainment assets, based on a 2001 agreement from the company's acquisition of Diller's USA Networks forbidding him from acquiring any Vivendi assets for four years after the merger. Diller has long been expected to pair with Liberty Media's John Malone to go after the assets.
