With the hiring of much of the staff from Banc One Capital Markets Inc.'s Columbus office, Minneapolis, Minnesota-based RBC Dain Rauscher Inc. hopes to both share a piece of the Ohio market and boost its national higher education practice. Dain's director of fixed-income banking, Chris Hamel, formally confirmed that the firm had hired James Wilhelm 3d, William Elliott, and Daniel Rohr. All will wear the title of managing director. In addition, Wilhelm will be manager of the firm's new Columbus office and sector leader for the higher education group. Elliott and Rohr, along with fellow banker Thomas Pfister, parted ways with Banc One last month over their alleged violation of Banc One's electronic transmission policies. Elliott, Rohr, and Wilhelm are longtime employees of Banc One and veterans of the Ohio market.
