ABSTRACT
The United States Internal Revenue Service (IRS) stated that $330 million of revenue bonds sold by the Orange County Health Facilities Authority in 2000 are not tax-exempt. The tax-exempt private-activity bonds were to mature on June 1, 2032, but they were redeemed on Oct. 2, 2002. The authority has sold $2.4 billion in bonds on behalf of hospitals since it was created in 1978 as a dependent special district.
