The model of brittle material, allowing for the determination of initiation and growth of cracks in thin-walled structures up to their destruction, is offered. Solutions of some problems are submitted: destruction of a plate at a homogeneous stress state; destruction of a beam at a pure bending;...

We show that experimental-calculational methods are very useful and fruitful for sheet materials and thin-walled structures, where the use of conventional experimental methods is limited. We illustrate the application of experimental-calculational methods on the example of determining the...

A 3D mixed beam finite element is presented, modeling the warping of the cross-sections as an independent kinematic field. The beam formulation is derived on the basis of the Hu-Washizu variational principle, expressed as function of four independent fields: the standard displacements, strains...

The modeling as well as application of process damping in milling of thin-walled workpiece made of titanium alloy is investigated. Titanium alloy used commonly in aviation industry is one typical difficult-to-machine material. Chatter usually occurs in cutting of titanium alloy, which results in...

Thin-walled construction represents a powerful tool for saving steel and thereby for increasing the competitiveness of steel structures. However, on the other hand, as the limit state of thin-walled structures is substantially affected by stability phenomena, the above concept can be implemented...

Deformation and fracture are primary problems encountered in the machining of thin-walled structures, especially when micro-milling is employed. To resolve these problems, we propose a novel method that was developed by theoretical analysis and experimental investigation. The mechanical...

Combustion that follows a gas explosion quickly evolves into detonation and causes severe damage in thin-walled structures, especially structures that contain small internal flaws. Detonation-driven fracture of thin structures is studied numerically by a 3D meshfree method. Such scenarios are...
