Abstract
ABSTRACT
The article presents some papers related to role of bronchoscopy in diagnosis and treatment of malignancy. Transbronchial needle aspiration (TBNA) is a well established technique used in the diagnosis and staging of bronchial carcinoma. A standard postal questionnaire was sent to 640 respiratory physicians listed in the 2004 BTS directory. Questions were asked about the frequency of use of TBNA, diagnostic yield and physicians views about the procedure. Despite the high yield, safety and cost effectiveness of TBNA reported in the literature, it is not widely practiced in Great Britain. This appears to be due to a lack of knowledge and training in this technique coupled with inadequate resources.
