The article presents information on abstracts related to pancreas. In an abstract emphasis is given on photodynamic therapy using talaporfin sodium (LS11) photosensitisarion in the pancreas and surrounding tissues in the Syrian golden hamster. The abstract assesses the safely of interstitial photodynamic therapy (PDT) using LS11, a novel chlorine derived photosensitiser, in animal studies using the Syrian golden hamster. LS11 was administered by direct inferior vena cava injection in the anoesthetised hamster at 5 mg/kg. Tissue fluorescence studies in liver, duodenum, colon, and pancreas were performed at 15, 30, 60, 120, and 240 minutes, and 24 hours. To determine the drug-light interval producing the largest PDT lesion, 50 J light was delivered to the pancreas, duodenum, liver, colon, spleen, aorta, and PVC at 15, 30, 60, 120, and 240 minutes after 5 mg/kg 1511. The PDT effects on the targeted organ and adjacent structures were assessed by postmortem at 3and 21 days, or at the time of death.
