Abstract
ABSTRACT
Presents several briefs pertaining to political news in the United States as of January 26, 2004. Carol Moseley Braun may barely register in the polls, but odds are that she'll emerge from the primaries victorious. Nothing more handily sums up her campaign than the fact that, although she has no policy papers, Moseley Braun provides reporters with a thick folder of clippings refuting the various allegations against her, which she dubs "the Nasties." Rehabilitation may not be a noble reason to run for president, but, in one of the surprises of the campaign, Moseley Braun may be achieving it nonetheless. Then, last week, in a similar display of good sense, Moseley Braun made a point of chastising Al Sharpton after the Harlem hustler scurrilously bashed Dean for failing to appoint any "blacks or browns" to his Vermont--Vermont! On Sunday, former Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill gave CBS's "60 Minutes" a televised peek into his new tell-all book The Price of Loyalty (written by Ron Suskind), in which he refers to President Bush as "a blind man in a room full of deaf people" and portrays his administration as ideologically entrenched and intellectually dishonest. Less than 24 hours later, Treasury spokesman Rob Nichols announced that the Department's inspector general was opening an investigation into whether O' Neill had spirited classified documents out of his office.
